Abstract

Accidents at construction sites are one of the serious problems in the construction industry worldwide. These problems can be attributed to traditional management practices. Lean project management has been introduced to construction in order to deliver maximum value to the customer, minimize waste, improve safety performance and so on. As a result, this study aimed to examine the effect of lean project management on safety of construction sites in Lagos State, Nigeria.  A survey research design was used in this study. The target population of this study is 288 members of project teams of the selected construction companies in Lagos State that are registered with the Federation of Construction Industry. Multiple regression analysis and the Pearson correlation method were used to analyze the formulated hypotheses. The findings of this research revealed that there is a strong positive relationship between the lean project management tools and accident rates at construction sites: R= 0.791, 0.843, 0.881, 0.771, 0.901 and 0.932 respectively. Also, the study revealed that lean project management tools jointly explain 73.9% of the changes in accident rates at construction sites with R2 = 0.739.
